Product Information
Logistical and Accounting Solutions UK
KBS Windows is Kingston Developments’ flagship product. It follows on from the original Kingston Business System(KATS) first developed on a UNIX platform in 1986. KBS builds on the strengths of KATS such as reliability, speed of response, generous functionality and ease of use. But it has been constructed using the latest Windows™ technology, following a thorough search for the best components and appropriate methods of storing data.
KBS provides a full-function environment for all of the day-to-day logistic and accounting functions for any medium-sized distribution company. In common with other computer systems it comes with a set of modules which generally reflect the departmental structure within many companies:-
Accounts (Nominal, Sales and Purchase ledgers)
Sales Order Processing and Management
Purchase Order Management
Stock and (multi) Warehouse Management
Returns (Customer and Supplier) Management (not included in KBS Lite)
Goods Inwards
Goods Outwards
Kitting and Manufacturing
Profitable operation is at the heart of KBS. Each customer order is measured for margin before confirmation. Detailed reporting highlights profitability in all areas of the company’s operation: by customer, employee, area, representative, department, supplier.
Importantly, KBS automates procedures performed manually or ‘off-system’ by competitors. Currency exchange differences are recognised as payments are being allocated to account. Stock is allocated (by FIFO rules of course) as soon immediate orders are taken, if no stock is available sales orders may be ‘allocated’ from purchase orders. KBS works tirelessly (day and night) to ensure maximum customer satisfaction with minimum stock and staff overhead. Transaction documents (quotes, order acknowledgements, sales orders, purchase orders, RFQ’s etc) are transmitted to their destination with no manual intervention.
KBS helps provide excellent customer service from a number of points, such as recording customer part numbers, and allowing customers to order using their own numbers. Order and despatch documentation, of course, reflects each customer’s numbers. KBS also facilitates supplier part numbers for Purchase Ordering.
KBS raises staff productivity in all departments. Using an advanced modern database system, KBS provides information at all stages from quotation, through ordering, to storage and despatch. All data is controlled logically to ensure that management and staff have relevant facts and documentation to ensure efficient execution of sales and purchase orders, stock handling, warehouse control, despatch and accounting.
Above all, KBS provides its users with the power of knowledge. History of all effective transactions is maintained indefinitely. Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Stock movements (internal), Quotations, RFQ’s, Invoices, Credit Notes may be printed and reprinted any time. Queries from customers can be answered in minutes. Users may speak with authority when dealing with queries from customers, colleagues, suppliers and management.
KBS ships with drivers to enable users automatically to transmit systems documents such as Sales Acknowledgements, Quotations, Purchase Orders, Returns Confirmation, by Fax or Email so avoiding time-wasting document handling.
KBS is 'Open Database', that is, it is not restricted to a specific database type. All internal data access commands have been written using the common database language - SQL. Our standard product ships with Elevate Software's DBISAM database, but the software has been tested with Microsoft's SQL Server™.
Elevate Software develops and markets DBISAM, which is an embedded database engine for use by developers within their applications. DBISAM is currently available for the Borland Delphi, C++Builder, and Kylix development environments as well as for any development environment that can use ODBC for data access.
